We have this every year on Christmas morning. It is better than presents!
In a skillet heat the olive oil. Remove the sausage from the casing and add to the pan. Break up the sausage until it is in small chunks and is browned and just cooked. Butter a large casserole dish. Line the bottom of the dish with bread. Spread the sausage evenly over the bread. Chop the green onions, green pepper, mushrooms, and the tomato. In a bowl beat the eggs, milk, crushed red pepper, salt, and pepper. Stir in the mushrooms, green onion, green pepper, and the tomato. Pour the mixture over the sausage. Top with the cheese and refrigerate overnight. The morning of serving place the casserole in the oven and then turn on to 350 degrees. You do not need to preheat the oven. Cook for 50-60 minutes and then let rest for five minutes. Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 50 minutes Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes |
