Green Chile Cheeseburgers PDF Print E-mail

There are a million different types of burgers and they all are good. I've recently become fond of the green chile cheeseburger as it is simple to make and the green chiles add a lot of flavor. Try to get fattier ground beef as your burgers will stay moist while they cook. Pasilla peppers are very mild so even people with the most delicate palates can eat this. Move up to Anaheim peppers or jalapenos for more heat.

Ground Beef

1 1/2 lbs Ground Beef

(preferably 80/20 or 85/15)

Pasilla Chile 2 Pasilla Chiles
Red Onion 1 Red Onion
Tomato 1 Tomato
Cheddar Cheese Cheddar Cheese
Salt and Pepper Salt and Pepper
Hamburger Buns 4 Hamburger Buns

Place the whole chiles on a hot grill or grill pan. Grill until each side is black. Remove from grill and let sit.

Shape the ground beef into four patties. Try to make them pretty thin as they will plump up while they cook. Season with salt and pepper.

Chop the red onion and slice the tomato and the cheese.

Put the patties on the grill. Grill for about four or five minutes on the first side. Flip them and grill them for another two minutes. Put the chopped red onion on the patties and then cover with the cheese. Cover the grill and let them cook for another two or three minutes. Remove to a plate and then grill the buns for about a minute.

Peel the blackened skin off of the chiles. With a knife slice along the chile to open it up. Remove the top and the seeds. Cut each chile in half so you are left with four pieces of chile that are about the same size.

On the bottom bun place a slice of tomato then the patty and then top with a slice of the chili.

Cook Time: 10 minutes
